RoamLite

How to install your eSIM

Install it at home on Wi-Fi a few days before you fly, then switch it on when you land. Your usual SIM stays on your phone the whole time.

Before you start

  • Your phone has to support eSIM and be carrier-unlocked. Check your phone.
  • Connect to Wi-Fi. Installing downloads the eSIM, and you won't have data abroad yet.
  • Don't delete the eSIM once it's installed. Most eSIMs can only be installed once, so a deleted one can't be put back.

On an iPhone

The quick way (iOS 17.4 or later): open your RoamLite email on the iPhone you're taking and tap Install on this iPhone. Follow the prompts.

With the QR code: open your order page on another screen. On the iPhone, go to Settings, then Cellular (Mobile Service on some iPhones), then Add eSIM, then Use QR Code, and scan it.

When the iPhone asks how to use the new line:

  • Label it something like "Travel" so you can tell the lines apart.
  • Keep your usual line as the default for calls, iMessage and FaceTime.
  • Keep your usual line for cellular data until you land.

On a Samsung Galaxy

Go to Settings, then Connections, then SIM manager, then Add eSIM. Choose to scan a QR code and scan the one on your order page. If the camera doesn't work, enter the SM-DP+ address and activation code from your email instead.

On a Google Pixel

Go to Settings, then Network & internet, then SIMs, then add a SIM. When it asks, choose to download an eSIM instead of inserting a SIM card, and scan the QR code on your order page.

When you land

  1. Turn on the RoamLite line if it's off.
  2. Turn on Data Roaming for the RoamLite line. It's a local network to the eSIM but counts as roaming to your phone; you won't be charged extra.
  3. Set the RoamLite line as the line for mobile data.
  4. Turn Data Roaming off on your usual US line. AT&T and Verizon start a daily charge as soon as your US line uses data abroad. See what that costs.

On an iPhone, all of this is in Settings, then Cellular. Also turn off Allow Cellular Data Switching, so the phone doesn't fall back to your US line. On Android, it's in SIM manager (Samsung) or SIMs (Pixel).

If it doesn't connect

  • Check that Data Roaming is on for the RoamLite line, and that it's the line chosen for data.
  • Turn Airplane Mode on for ten seconds, then off again. If that doesn't work, restart the phone.
  • Turn off automatic network selection for the RoamLite line and pick one of the networks listed on your destination's page.
  • Still nothing? Email support@roamlite.co with your order number. If we can't get it working and the fault is ours or the network's, you get a full refund.
