How much data do you need?
Move the sliders to match a typical day of your trip. Most people need less than they think: maps and messaging use very little, video uses a lot.
You'll use about
6 GB
A 10 GB plan covers your trip, with some room to spare.
Find a plan for your tripHow we estimate
- Maps and directions: about 10 MB an hour.
- Browsing, messaging and email: about 60 MB an hour.
- Social media (photos and short videos): about 400 MB an hour.
- Streaming video: about 1 GB an hour.
- Video calls: about 500 MB an hour.
- Streaming music or podcasts: about 100 MB an hour.
- Background use (app updates, photo backup, sync): about 50 MB a day.
- We add 20% on top so you don't run out on the last day.
These are averages. Video in HD uses about three times as much as standard definition, and turning off automatic photo backup while you're away saves a lot.
Ways to use less
- Download offline maps and playlists on hotel Wi-Fi before you head out.
- Turn off automatic app updates and photo backup until you're back on Wi-Fi.
- Set video apps to standard definition, or save shows for the hotel.
